Patrick Greenwood didn't choose the setting for Shores of Okinawa solely for its cinematic appeal — he experienced it himself. He walked the beaches where intense fighting of World War II occurred, stood at memorials that still bear the weight of sacrifice, and allowed the island to guide him in conveying the story.
